A Three-Fold Dragonfly Card
This is one of the card designs that we made recently during one of our workshops. Everyone was pleased with their finished result and seemed to enjoy making it. It takes some time to make but is well worth the effort. A certain amount of skill is involved but even our first time crafters succeeded. The card shape is easily adapted to other designs.

You will need the following:-
|
-
Place the dark red card, short side against the butt bar of the folding board, score and fold line 4 (A4 zig-zag). Turn the card 180 degrees and score and fold on line 4 again. You should now have a zig-zag (or concertina fold) card.
-
Open out the card and mark a diagonal line from the top of the first crease to the bottom right hand corner and cut away.
-
As you look at the card the diagonal piece is the front of the card and it finishes with a complete rectangle on the last third of the card. Attach 2 pieces of straight line peel off to the two diagonal edges that face you.
-
On a piece of white pearlescent paper 7 x 14cm, stamp three dragonflies with StazOn ink at random angles as per the example. Then stamp two star flowers to complete the image for the front of the card.
-
Stamp the greeting on a separate piece of white pearlescent paper 7 x 3.5cm.
-
On another piece of white pearlescent paper stamp three flowers and three dragonflies but we only want the wings this time.
-
Paint the images with whatever colouring medium you prefer. I have used Marvey ink pads – purple, yellow, green and bubblegum pink. To use them as water paints just dab them onto a non-porous surface like a tile or an acrylic block and pick up the colour with a wet paint brush. I like this method of colouring as you can get a very soft effect. I have painted a very soft shadow around the dragonflies with a very watery green.
-
Next cut out the flowers and three sets of dragonfly wings with just their bodies to layer up on the top of your image for the front of the card. Just bend the wings upwards from each side of the body and using a very small piece of double sided tape on the underside of the body attach one to each dragonfly. This gives a lovely 3-D image to your piece.
-
Layer the greeting, the front topper and the three flower images onto the pink paper and cut out leaving a small pink border. I find Collall very easy glue to use as if you put too much on and it squeezes out, it just rubs off without leaving any trace or discolouration on the card.
-
Next layer the greeting and the dragonfly topper onto silver card leaving a small border.
-
Attach the completed topper onto the front of the card being careful to put sticky tape only on the red card and not on the topper.
-
Attach the greeting to the top of the last piece of card and using a glue dot stick the bow onto the top right hand side as shown.
-
Attach two of the flowers with double sided sticky pads, onto the front of the card overlapping the front piece slightly, as shown.
-
Finally, attach the last flower image inside the card just below the greeting.
