Scrapbooking
Anyone who enjoys stamping and
card making will almost certainly enjoy scrap-booking. It uses
the same elements as card making but you get to keep your
masterpieces. Some people are afraid to get involved in
scrap-booking because they think “it takes too long”. Making
album pages should be fun and a page can be completed in as
little as ten minutes. Don’t turn it into a chore! Either take
your time over each page or finish it quickly and embellish and
journal it later – the choice is yours.
You must use acid and lignin-free papers, inks and glues etc.
otherwise, over time your pages and photographs may deteriorate
with brown spots.
An easy way to get started is by selecting 2 – 5 photos of one
theme per page, i.e. Christmas, Birthday Party, Vacation etc.
Then select plain and patterned paper to complement your photos.
If you use a patterned paper for your background, use a plain
paper to matte your photos. You can start with your current
photos and work forwards and backwards in time, thus keeping up
with the present and catching up with the past. Most scrapbooks
are easy to add to as they have a simple post system and you can
add pages in any order, so you don’t need to worry about where
to start.
We run a beginner’s class for new Scrapers each month (next one
is Friday 3rd August booking is essential). It runs for 3 hours
and costs €30, which includes a scrapbook plus six 30 x 30cm
pages of your choice to get you started. We also run a monthly
Club (€5) also 3 hours, where you can meet other Scrapers, have
fun using all kinds of stencils, punches, books etc and of
course get new ideas from seeing other people’s work.
