Eastern Promise

This week we are using alcohol inks, no you can’t drink them, nothing to stop you having a glass of wine while you work though. Alcohol Inks make stunning backgrounds and are great fun to experiment with.

You will need the following:-

  • Alcohol inks Wild Plum, Raisin and Stream plus applicator

  • Piece of white Cast-Coated card

  • Pink DL Card

  • Peel Offs – Black Oriental, Japanese greeting, plus corners.

  • Silver and black Japanese character card 14 x 8.5 cm

  • French navy pearlescent card 12 x 7cm

  • 1mm sticky pads

  1. Place the tip of the alcohol inkbottle (without squeezing) onto the applicator and hold for a count of three. Repeat with the other two co

  2. Place the tip of the alcohol inkbottle (without squeezing) onto the applicator and hold for a count of three. Repeat with the other two colours making sure they do not touch.

  3. Dab the applicator onto the cast-coated card repeatedly twisting the handle as you lift to prevent making a symmetrical pattern. Don’t try to cover the card completely on your first run, but reapply the inks to the applicator if you run “dry”. (Make sure you apply them in the same place otherwise you will finish up with “mud”. When the card is nearly covered, apply a stroke of blending fluid to the pad across the colours. Now repeat the dabbing/twisting action and all the colours should blend and cover the card.

  4. Place the kimono, fan, butterfly and three flowers stickers onto the coloured card and cut out. Layer up the flowers onto the fan and the belt of the kimono as shown.

  5. Attach the four corner stickers to the front of the card.

  6. Layer up the blue paper onto the character card and attach this piece slightly to the left. Arrange the cut out pieces as shown.
